Free (as in beer) Music!

This past year, I took a break from playing the drums and started catching up with the 21st century with regards to music software, and also tried my hand at doing some mini-compositions. You can download a zip file of 12 tracks I’ve done using an mAudio keyboard, GarageBand and a Nintendo DS Lite using _Electroplankton_ for your listening pleasure:

Striving For Excellence (except on weekends) (50-odd megs)

As with most free music, photos, etc., a Creative Commons license applies to these works.

All the best for 2007!

DS Games That Don’t Exist (yet)

truthMike Monteiro, whom you may already know from such websites such as Mule Design Studios, King of VOX and biggerhand, has upped the internet ante with one of the fuckin’ funniest concepts when it comes to blending Flickr, Photoshop, books and video games. Ladies and gentlemen: DS Tie-In Games I Wanna Play.

If you don’t laugh even a little, there’s probably something wrong with you.

Merry Christmas!

Some Recent Points of Interest

‘Tis a busy time of the year. I’m tired; you’re tired. So, what the hell, here’s a short list:

* This SNL Digital Short hasn’t gotten tired…yet: Dick in a Box!

* A cool BBC Senses Challenge (which I’m sure must’ve been mentioned somewhere in the book, Mind Hacks).

* The latest Transformers trailer (warning: streaming; doesn’t seem to like the latest Firefox for Mac).

* Erika Hall saves Christmas!

Getting Illuminated

After a brief e-mail exchange about coffee with Boing Boing co-founder, editor, artist and author, Mark Frauenfelder, a track of mine now appears on the current podcast of Get Illuminated as the intro/extro music.

Also, I would recommend that you set your music player’s podcast feeds to catch Boing Boing Boing, the site’s companion podcast which features further insights from the gang’s recent postings, entertaining and educational chats about related items and interesting guests.

The Book Meme

The dude-you’ve-got-way-too-much-talent Robot Johnny has tagged me with this one. It’s also a nice reminder to clean up the mess around here and _start_ reading the book mentioned.

The deal is:

# Grab the book closest to you
# Open to page 123, go down to the fifth sentence
# Post the text of next 3 sentences on your blog
# Name of the book and the author
# Tag three people

Here’s mine:

bq. The air was the key to the riddle of cholera, and indeed to most know diseases. Nowhere is the philosophy more pronounced than in the writings of the Victorian age’s most beloved and influential medical figure, Florence Nightingale. Consider this passage from the beginning of her groundbreaking 1857 work Notes on Nursing:

Sorry to cut you off there, but that’s the three.

The Ghost Map: The Story of London’s Most Terrifying Epidemic – and How It Changed Science, Cities, and the Modern World by Steven Johnson.

The torch shall be passed on to Mike, Neil and James.
