Boys and Their Toys

Happy belated birthday, Myke.

Elliot with kite

Since the boy was so brave during his trip to the hospital this week, I had to take him on a trip to Toys R Us to let him pick out an addition to the growing fleet of construction vehicles. I also picked us (me) up a Bob the Builder kite to try out. I hadn’t flown a kite in over twenty years. Having done so this evening, I’d like to get back into it, only with something a little better than a three dollar plastic bag.

Actually Pulling Teeth

Man, what a day.

Over a short period of time, the boy’s front teeth had shown signs of rapid decay as a result of what’s known as “bottle mouth.” This is when some kids who are given a bottle at bedtime fall asleep holding hold milk and/or juice with their tongue in the top of their mouth, allowing sugar and bacteria to eat away at the weak enamel on their teeth. While we never gave our little one a bottle of juice at bedtime as he was a nursed baby, it really makes no difference in this situation.

As a result, the boy had to have his top four front teeth extracted today to ensure that things would be okay when his adult teeth grow in. With no front teeth, he’s now going to be looking like 1970s former Philadelphia Flyers captain Bobby Clarke. For such a little guy, that should look pretty cute.

I haven’t asked him to say “horses” or “snakes” yet. That would be just plain mean.

Maybe next week.

Nico’s Day

Happy first birthday Nico! Sorry we couldn’t be there to help your Dad with the BBQ. Maybe we’ll make it next year.

Oh, and of course, Happy Fourth of July to our friends to the south.

Eee, These Bank Holidays, eh Gromit?

Happy Birthday Canada. I got you the same thing as last year, but in a different style and a size bigger.

My pal Drew and I checked out the Cinematic Orchestra at the Phoenix Concert Theatre last night. ‘Twas great to finally get to see one of my favourite bands in the last couple of years live. Man, that Luke Flowers in one hell of a drummer.

It’s kinda weird having a holiday on a Tuesday. Not too much to do except loaf about, eat junk food and noodle around on the Mac. Not like that’s a bad thing.
