norelpref

norelprefOver the recent months, I’ve been tuning my brain into the SubGenius Hour of Slack podcast, from the good folks at the Church of the SubGenius (praise “Bob”). One of the cooler sound collage artists/composers constantly featured on the show is the wonderful norelpref, who offers a ton of his mp3 clips available for free downloading. I’m still digging through his site, which is updated frequently, and am excited about the whole discovery process. Definitely an essential these days.

Absolutely MAD

MADNot that we need any more distractions around these parts, but I HAD to get a copy of Absolutely MAD to relive my childhood days of the late ’70s/early ’80s, when a trip to the variety store included purchasing a copy of either MAD, Cracked or Creem, along with some Wacky Packages, Hostess BBQ chips (in the foil bag), Coke in a 300ml glass bottle and perhaps a package of Fun-Dip. This single DVD includes every issue of MAD from October 1952 to December 2005, including the fold-ins! I just subscribed a few months back, so now all I’ll be missing is 2006, and I’m sure eBay or craigslist might be of some help there.

Coming Soon…Tintin!

tintin My friend Jay, knowing that my six-year-old loves all things Tintin, sent me a link to this news story announcing that none other than _Steven Spielberg_ is gearing up to bring the redheaded boy detective to the big screen. My brother-in-law has always thought that _The Red Sea Sharks_ would make an excellent Bond-like action flick (should Mr. S. be trying to decide which book to start with).

I’ve only started getting into Tintin since my son took a great interest in the stories. It used to be that every time we popped into Pages Books, he’d ask for yet _another_ of the books, which he’d go home and read within a day or so. It’s getting to the point that the only Tintin item in the store we don’t (yet) have is the cool rocketship display stand. Thanks to Captain Haddock, he now understands what “drunk” means!

The Big Snip

big snipRecently, over at Dethroner (where every man is king), the theme for the week was fatherhood. Seeing as we’ve recently had our second (and last) child, I’ve decided to go for the big snip. In the spirit of fatherhood week, I decided to contribute a piece on the subject of the impending vasectomy.

Safe to say, I’ll be stocking up on bags of frozen peas and corn in the near future.
