The Hodgman Cometh (free to CDN iTunes)

hodgmanThis probably isn’t news for anyone outside of Canada. Yes, it’s that guy from the Apple …And I’m a PC television ads, resident expert on The Daily Show and contributor to NPR’s This American Life. Just in case you hadn’t already picked it up, John Hodgman’s The Areas of My Expertise audiobook has recently become available on the Canadian iTunes as a free download, at least for the time being. So, if you’ve a Canadian address, snap it up now and enjoy all 37 discs worth. Bonus points that it’s listed as “self-development”.

Douglas Coupland Updates

couplandI popped by Douglas Coupland‘s website yesterday to discover that some of his artwork will be appearing here in ten Queen Street West streetcar shelters as part of the CONTACT Toronto Photography Festival in May. Not just that, there’s also mention of a new novel, _The Gum Thief_, due out in the fall. On top of all that, there’s also a one-hour television pilot based on his last novel, JPod, now in the can. Hot damn! He also sums up his ads for Blackberry as a way to raise funds for Vancouver’s Contemporary Art Gallery. Oh yeah, and it looks like Everything’s Gone Green will finally be in theatres this spring.

It’s A Girl!

mollyHaving gone waaay past her due date, it gives me tremendous pleasure to finally introduce you to Molly Virginia Fynes, born February 13, 2007 at 9:49pm. She weighed in at a whopping 8 pounds 15 ounces (1oz shy of nine pounds!). Laurel is my new superhero! Ms. Molly is doing most excellent, as is Mom, and her big brother no longer looks to her as being his nemesiter (I love that term). I’m sure that’ll change once she’s big enough to hold a game controller.

The day before she arrived, I managed to put together a new tune using GarageBand and the m-Audio Oxygen keyboard. Please have a listen.

Thank you to all that have visited, phoned, e-mailed and sent Cookiegrams™. We’re looking forward to getting her out of the house once the bitter cold weather lets up a bit and introducing her to the big, wide world.

That, and picking up some groceries!

The Fibonacci Up Series

fibonacci upA few weeks ago, I was out having a few drinks with friends when the discussion revolving around TV and movies turned to the latest installment in The Up Series (7 Up, 14 Up, 21 Up, etc.). Feeling the effects of alcohol (like you do), I wound up twisting the series concept into something a little more humorous: The Fibonacci Up Series. I’d been meaning to do something with this idea for a while now. I suppose it could have started with age five, but since the original series started at age seven, and eight being the closest number in the sequence, I decided to start there.

So, what to do on Superbowl Sunday when you don’t watch football, it’s too bloody cold to spend much time outside (-13ºC, not including the windchill), and you’re in the final “hurry up and wait” stage of your wife’s now overdue pregnancy? Why, screw around with Photoshop™, of course.
