It’s Bloody Hot, Inside and Out

WHAT BETTER WAY TO SPEND the last Saturday of summer than to stay indoors doing housework, organizing several small piles of papers, CDs, books and other assorted odds ‘n’ ends cluttering up the place. I’ve been working up a sweat, which is no surprise since the thermo read 82 degrees at one point earlier in the day. It’s time to venture outdoors just to cool down.

I’ve also scanned some older slides and updated the various gallery over in the photo section, since it was looking a wee bit shabby.

Rated R: Strong Violence, Pervasive Language, Drug Content and Some Sexuality

There are already enough websites devoted to catching shoddy translations and other (mis)usages of the English language, but I have to share this description from the back of an imported DVD of a children’s movie given to our son:

bq. (reach can tower) with (the history guest match – cloth takes charge of wood’s) this rightness of little the younger sister of ¶ss, 2 persons stayto what stuff stunned at in home, bursting upon at this time on having the cat of the miraculous magic only, it wore the alternate and high hat in red and white grain to still take a walk stick, a he supercilious attitude swagger of the parties “New Yorker” walks into their house, immediately after he is from the hat become to appear lost in though the strange sorcery, lead two sister of ¶s enter the risky trip that a madness stimulate making the home the day turns over a !Seeing mother will go home the sorcery work properly the cat with this rightness of naughtly little the younger sister of s should hoto tidy up the disorderly final phase in this regiment?

The title of this post is also the actual movie rating indicated. What’s even funnier is that reading and making any sense of the above description was a lot easier than watching the flick itself.

I’m sure you’ve figured out which movie by now.

Anniversary, Birthday, Going Away

IT’S BEEN QUITE THE BUSY WEEKEND THUS FAR and Sunday’s just starting.

Happy Anniversary, my darling babe. Married six years out of the ten together and getting better all the time.

Happy Birthday Ron! We’re hoping that you don’t get traded in for two seventeen-and-a-half year olds!

Dennis and Leslie: until we meet again. Ride on the lift and drive on the left.

Sick Day

THERE’S NOTHING LIKE THE SUMMER COLD and/or flu to really knock the shit out of you on a moment’s notice (not literally, mind you). Today would have to be my turn for it since the sun is actually out and it looks like a nice warm day, for a change.

After drifting in and out of cold remedy-induced naps, I have nothing to offer but some weird dreams about growing my hair long again and a list of some cool websites for you to visit:

* The Neistat Brothers: Van and Casey. Two NYCers with a video camera, a Mac and some neat and funny stuff. iPod owners: check their “iPod’s Dirty Secret” movie and subsequent interviews.

* Robert Wyatt feature over at the BBC.

* Mice Parade a.k.a. Adam Pierce: Skilled multi-instrumentalist, performer, label guy, etc. (the bastard!). I’d have to say that Obrigado Saudade is probably my favourite disc of the year, thus far.

* 1974 video footage of Steve Reich’s Clapping Music performed by the composer and Russell Hartenberger.

* Michael Wood: Wonderful photographer and teacher of Miksang. You’ll more than likely be spending a fair bit of time on this site.

* And, of course, this week’s Strong Bad email.

With any luck, I’ll have my sense of taste back in time for dinner, sans throbbing forehead and eye twitch.

On a much happier note: Congratulations Clive and Emily on your recent big day! All the best!

Happy Birthday Michelle!

Like Shit Through a Screen Door

I KNOW THAT IT’S SOOO LAST SUMMER to be going on like this, but I’m just too giddy when it comes to this stuff.

I decided to add the email address for this site to my others than are screened by Knowspam for bullshit mail. I normally had mail from this site forwarded without utilizing its own POP account. Setting it up on its own sent a deluge of garbage on its way, only to be stopped cold. Over the span of a few hours:

Others have already sung the praises and done the time-saving math. I’ll stop now.
